The Great British Breakfast
Breakfast is the best start to the day. Traditionally the British Breakfast is a feast made up of fruit juice, cereal, bit fry-up (including bacon, sausage, mushrooms or tomato, fried egg and fried bread) followed by toast and marmalade all washed down with lots of hot tea. Many households had this type of meal either regularly or sometimes only on Sundays. Fortunately these days we are more conscious of our health and the alarming number of calories such a meal contains. Sometimes to such an extent that we omit breakfast all together. But this is wrong. Breakfast is still the most important meal of the day. So what do you do when you know you would like the big British Breakfast but know you shouldn't eat it. Easy. Follow these few simple rules and if you are still not sure look at the alternatives we suggest.
  • Never fry anything when you can grill or bake it. Bacon and especially sausages contain Lots of fat. (Prick sausages frequently whilst cooking to ensure all the fat drains away).
  • Try to balance out your fat intake. For example if you are having bacon don't put butter or margarine on your toast or bread.
  • Eat eggs in moderation and don't fry. Either poach or scramble your eggs.
  • Leave the fried bread alone. If really want it you could dip the bread into beaten egg and then fry. The egg forms a coating thereby stopping the bread from soaking up too much fat
