Wanting to exercise by walking when you have a small toddler is not always easy. Carrying your baby in a ‘backpack’ may help but only if it’s fitted correctly. Make sure the straps are adjusted so the weight of the carrier rests on the hips, not your shoulders. You should be able to move your head without catching the pack or the baby. If the carrier has a chest strap, use it so you take some of the pressure off your back by moving the frame forward.
Lifting the pack from the floor causes the greatest muscle strain so try placing the pack on a table then put the baby inside. Slip your arms into the straps, ensure both pack and baby is safe before lifting. If there is no safe place then put the carrier on the floor making sure you bend your knees when reaching down for the pack. When lifting ensure your knees straighten slowly so your back won’t bear the whole burden.
