We often hear the saying "give me the boy until he is seven and I will give you the man". Well early learning does matter. Whilst nurseries, pre-school, groups and playgroups play an important part the first teachers our children ever meet are their parents. Communication Is one of the first lesson we teach our children. Encouraging children to observe everything around them and the talking about what they see stimulates a child's mind.
Simple maths are taught by counting fingers and toes. Or letting our child help us with the baking teaches him about quantities and the order of doing certain things. Social and emotional development is very important too. Joining in a child's play or encouraging them to mix with other children increase confidence and independence.
Children need to learn about the world around them, so give them opportunities to explore and experiment. Allow them to be creative. After all many famous artist or musician started when they were very young. Dressing up and pretend playing allows the child to explore the own feelings and ideas.
And don't forget they need physical activity. Children need the opportunities to develop strength and co-ordination. Letting them enjoy energetic play like running and climbing keeps them healthy as well letting of steam and dispersing that excess energy that all kids seem to have. Besides which you could just be watching the first training sessions of future Olympic Gold Medallist!
