Here are a few tips to help organise you for stress free travel with children:
- When booking a holiday research the destination, travel and medical requirements well before leaving, especially when taking children abroad.
- Make a list of what each person needs, ensuring you include clothing that will be protective against the sun for all the family.
- Try to pack without interruptions from the kids. Perhaps relatives or friends can look after them for the day, after all even a multitasking super mum can forget essentials if distracted.
- Be ruthless when you pack. Apart from Third World countries most things can be bought at your destination. You don't necessarily need to haul a case of full of nappies as these will be more than likely available at a local supermarket near your destination.
Hot Tip - Take a stock of bin-liners; they'll come in handy for all sorts of uses.
- Keep children informed about the holiday and journey. The more they know about it the more secure and less excitable they'll be en route.
- If travelling in the dark prepare the kids in advance and wake them up in plenty of time. Avoid a full breakfast but pack a nutritious snack for the journey.
- If flying leave plenty of time to get to the airport. Rushed kids are stressed kids, and you will be too. The more time, the better. Leave enough for that unexpected nappy change or wave of travel sickness.
- Above all have a safe, happy and fun time.
