The Law, alcohol and kids
It is illegal for any child under 5 to be given intoxicating liquor, even at home, except on medical advice.

It is not illegal for a child over 5 to drink, providing it is not done so on licensed premises.

Children under 14 must not be in the bar of a public house during normal opening hours.

Young people aged 14 to 18 may be in a bar but must not buy or be bought or drink alcohol.

Young people 16 to 18 may buy or be bought beer, cider or perry (in Scotland wine as well) but only for consumption with a meal in a dining room or area used exclusively for eating.

It is illegal for anyone under 18 to buy intoxicating drink from an off-licence.
