Signs of Blood Pressure
Normal to Slightly High - 120/80 - 139/89 This is
good but your blood pressure should be checked at least once a year. Anything
lower than normal is rare but if you suffer from headaches or fainting spells
see your GP.
Moderately High - 140/90 -
159/99 At this point you will probably be told to exercise and go on
a low-salt, low-fat diet for a couple of months. If that doesn't help then you
may need medication.
Very High - 160/100 -
179/109 You will probably be on daily medication, perhaps for the
rest of your life. Regular check-ups with your GP will be necessary.
Dangerously High - 180/110 or above
At this level the risk of a heart attack has doubled and the possibility of a
stroke trebled. Constant medication will be prescribed and serious lifestyle
changes will be needed.
If you have any worries about your health
consult your GP without delay. |
