The Cancer fighters
LUNG
Eating green, leafy and yellow or red vegetables can help reduce the risk. Whilst tomatoes have been associated with a reduced risk of lung cancer in general it is felt that more research is needed to expand on possible benefit.
STOMACH Japan has a high rate of stomach cancer problems. When researchers compared the possibilities of stomach cancer in regions where people eat tomatoes, to those regions where they don't, they found that the likelihood of someone developing stomach cancer was much reduced in the tomato consuming regions.
BOWEL Researchers in Italy and China have found that tomato eaters are 60% less likely to develop bowel cancer, compared to non-tomato eaters. The USA researchers also reported similar results but Belgium researchers were unable to show any real benefits as tomato consumption is very low in that country.
PROSTRATE Researchers at Harvard University have shown that men who eat tomatoes are 21% less likely to develop cancer of the prostrate when compared to men who don't eat them. The study results so impressed the male consultants that many decided to start drinking a glass of tomato juice every day as a safeguard against the possibility of developing this cancer.
BREAST It has been found that the consumption of fruit and vegetable in general helps reduce the risk of this type of cancer. Whilst some research has been undertaken regarding the benefits of tomato consumption in the fight against this cancer it is felt that more research is necessary before final conclusions can be drawn as to the benefits of tomatoes.
