Barbells are designed to fit one of two weight plate sizes, standard 1 inch of Olympic 2 inch. Standard size bars lend themselves well to any new starters out there or intermediates, conversely Olympic size suits advanced, regular lifters and their more demanding requirements as they come with more generous load capacities.
It’s equally as important to choose the right length, 4ft, 5ft, 6ft and 7ft lengths are designed for use with specific width lifting racks. If you have a rack, it’s crucial you choose a length that will fit flush with the rack width for safe training.
